The AACR Cancer Progress Report 2013 celebrates the many ways that we continue to make research count for patients, with a special feature on immunotherapy. The progress we have made is due to the dedicated work of researchers throughout the biomedical research enterprise; however, continued progress is in peril because of a decade of effectively shrinking budgets for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and a $1.6 billion dollar NIH budget cut in March 2013 as a result of sequestration. To realize the day when cancer is removed as a major threat to our nation?s citizens and to future generations, Congress, the administration, and the general public must stand firm in their commitment to the conquest of cancer.
